Still Up? – Sleep Help Desk

Therapy Service for Insomnia Disorder and Online Consultations: UniMarconi Psychology Services

Service description

Insomnia disorder is a prevalent condition associated with high costs for both the individual and society. Current international diagnostic manuals define insomnia as an independent disorder that follows its own course and predisposes individuals to greater vulnerability to the development of other physical or mental clinical conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to identify insomnia disorder early and offer appropriate treatment.

Current international guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia disorder indicate cognitive behavioral therapy as the treatment of choice. Pharmacological therapy should be prescribed only if psychological therapy proves ineffective or is not available for some reason.

The “Still Up?” service of Guglielmo Marconi University offers the opportunity to undertake a psychotherapy or psychological counseling intervention specifically dedicated to insomnia-related problems, such as difficulty falling asleep, frequent or prolonged nighttime awakenings, or difficulty waking up at the desired time. The intervention is based on current recommendations and the most recent research findings (reference: Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) Across the Life Span: Guidelines and Clinical Protocols for Health Professionals).

Organization

The service is provided online via Google Meet.
Individual sessions include:

  • a cycle of up to 8 sessions, which can be booked at least one week apart from each other;
  • a follow-up session 3 months later.
