Practical–Evaluative Internship
In accordance with the provisions of Law no. 163/2021 and Interministerial Decrees no. 567/2022 and no. 654/2022, eligibility to practice the profession of psychologist, with registration in Section A of the Register of Psychologists, is obtained after passing a practical–evaluative internship and a practical evaluative exam.
Eligible applicants for the Practical–Evaluative Internship (TPV) are:
- students enrolled under the new system in the LM51 – Psychology degree program (implemented pursuant to Interministerial Decree 654/2022).
- graduates of the LM51 – Psychology degree program under the previous system;
- students enrolled under the new system in the L24 – Psychological Sciences and Techniques degree program (implemented pursuant to Interministerial Decree 654/2022);
- students enrolled in the 3rd year of L24 – Psychological Sciences and Techniques (New System) for a total of 10 ECTS credits (250 hours);
- students enrolled in the 1st year of LM51 – Psychology (qualifying) for the completion of 10 ECTS credits (250 hours) of TPV to be recovered if not completed during the bachelor’s degree; these may also be completed in a single block in the 2nd year (10 + 20 ECTS);
- students enrolled in the 2nd year of LM51 – Psychology (qualifying) for the completion of 20 ECTS credits (500 hours);
- graduates or graduating students of LM51 – Psychology (system prior to the qualifying reform) for the completion of 30 ECTS credits (750 hours) of post-graduate TPV.
Only those who obtained their degree at our University may access the post-graduate TPV.
The access requirement related to the academic year must be met at the start of the internship (as per the table shown in the “request for activation”), not at the time of application.
For students enrolled in L24 – Psychological Sciences and Techniques (New System):
250 hours (10 ECTS) of TPV must be completed during the 3rd year. These will be useful in case of enrollment in the qualifying master’s degree, to reach the 30 ECTS of TPV required to access the Practical Evaluative Exam for registration in Section A of the Register of Psychologists. The TPV is activated for 6 months; once the 250 hours are completed, the internship may be concluded early.For students enrolled in LM51 – Psychology (Qualifying):
500 hours (20 ECTS) of TPV must be completed during the 2nd year and, if not already accrued, an additional 250 hours (10 ECTS) from L24. The TPV is activated for 12 months; once the hours are completed, the internship may be concluded early.For graduates or graduating students of LM51 – Psychology (system prior to the qualifying reform):
750 hours (30 ECTS) of post-graduate TPV must be completed. The TPV is activated for 12 months; once the hours are completed, the internship may be concluded early.The internship must be continuous, with a recommended weekly attendance of approximately 15–30 hours, with a maximum of 8 hours per day, distributed weekly in agreement with the host organization. Attendance, taking these recommendations into account, may not exceed 40 hours per week.
Once the hours are completed, the internship may be concluded by submitting the final documentation to the Internship Office. No absence hours are forseen.
The TPV must be carried out in operational settings at qualified external organizations affiliated with the University. According to internal University regulations, the internship may be carried out at one site or at two sites. In the latter case, since the decrees do not provide explicit guidance, it is established that, in order to ensure a qualifying experience, the total hours must be evenly distributed between the organizations.
Applicants may independently identify the organization at which to carry out the TPV, which may take place at public or private institutions (the latter with a statute of at least three years) where activities of a psychological nature are carried out and which can guarantee the presence of one or more psychologists regularly registered in Section A of the Register for at least three years, employed or with a systematic professional relationship, and able to guarantee supervision of the internship for the hours declared by the trainee in the training project.
Attention:
- it is not possible to carry out the internship at the private practice of a single self-employed psychologist;
- it is not possible to carry out the internship at an organization in which the owner, manager, partner and/or executive has family or affinity ties up to the 4th degree with the applicant student. It is possible to carry out the internship at the company where the student is employed, but it must be carried out outside working hours and in a department different from the one of employment. In this case, a written declaration from the company manager confirming these conditions is required.

In the case of private organizations, the Integrated Committee (University/Order of Psychologists of Lazio) will assess adequacy and approve it as a TPV host organization.
Affiliation of a new organization takes a long time; it is recommended to submit the request well in advance, preferably in the session preceding the one of interest.
If this is not possible, and in order to allow proper verification of the organization’s adequacy by the Integrated Committee while enabling acceptance of applications without issues, it is strongly recommended to submit the accreditation request no later than the day before the start of the chosen application period, according to the following schedule:
Organization accreditation request by Application period Internship start 30 November 1 October – 31 October 15 January 31 January 1 February – 28 February 15 May 31 May 1 June – 30 June 15 September Activities, constantly supervised by the tutor designated by the host organization, include direct observation and the performance of activities aimed at situated learning and the development of competencies related to the applied contexts of psychology, as well as the procedural and relational skills fundamental to professional practice. These competencies refer to the typical and reserved acts characterizing the profession of psychologist, also pursuant to Article 1 of Law no. 56 of 18 February 1989, and include the use of knowledge and intervention tools for prevention, diagnosis, habilitation–rehabilitation activities, and psychological support aimed at individuals, groups, social organizations and communities, as well as experimentation, research and teaching activities.
In particular, the TPV includes:
a) activities, carried out individually or in small groups, aimed at learning methods, tools and procedures related to applied contexts of psychology;
b) practical experiences, workshops, simulations, role playing, project drafting, carried out individually or in small groups, concerning tools, methods and procedures, aimed at developing the knowledge necessary to operate in contexts in which psychologists work.Although there is no longer a distinction by subject area, it is preferable that during the TPV at least two of the characteristic aspects of the psychologist’s profession are addressed.
Any interruptions requested by the interested party, with submission of supporting documentation to be presented for authorization to the Integrated Committee, will be accepted only in the following cases: maternity or paternity, long-term illness, exceptional justified cases.
