Objectives
The Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering aims to prepare students for the development and use of information technologies by offering a very broad and comprehensive educational path. This distinguishes it from other computer science programs that do not have an engineering-oriented approach.
The program focuses on scientific foundations, through which students learn the fundamental elements of essential engineering disciplines, such as physics and, above all, mathematics (calculus, geometry, algebra, mathematical logic, statistics, and probability). These basic skills are complemented by solid training in computer science, together with the fundamentals of other Information Engineering disciplines, such as Electronics, Telecommunications, as well as aspects of Management Engineering.
In the third year, in particular, courses are organized into three curricula focused on innovative topics:
- Software Development: study of complex system architectures and principles of software quality.
- Artificial Intelligence: learning the main concepts and methods for solving AI problems, using languages such as Python, R, and PyTorch, and analyzing how digital transformation is changing business functions through AI.
- Cybersecurity: acquisition of basic principles for recognizing malware, applying countermeasures, using cryptography and authentication techniques, and defining security policies to protect information resources.
Finally, the program also includes additional educational activities that explore applications of computer engineering in emerging sectors such as energy and hybrid mobility, with particular attention to environmental sustainability.
The main employment opportunities provided by degree programs in this class include: IT industries operating in hardware and software production; automation and robotics industries; companies operating in the field of information systems and computer networks; service companies; and public administration IT services.
According to current regulations (Presidential Decree DPR 328/2001), graduates may practice as self-employed professionals after registration (through a State Examination) in the Junior Section of the following Professional Register:
- Order of Engineers – Section B – Sector C – Information Engineering
The degree program prepares students for the professions of:
- Network and telematics systems technicians – (3.1.2.5.0)
- Application specialists/technicians – (3.1.2.2.0)
- Web technicians – (3.1.2.3.0)
- Database management technicians – (3.1.2.4.0)
- Programming technicians – (3.1.2.1.0)
To be admitted to the Bachelor’s Degree program, applicants must hold an upper secondary school diploma or another qualification obtained abroad and recognized as suitable. In line with the specific educational objectives of the program, applicants are also required to have basic knowledge and skills in effective written and oral communication and in correctly interpreting texts; basic knowledge of mathematical and physical sciences; and logical reasoning skills at the level expected upon completion of upper secondary education.
To verify possession of the required entry-level knowledge, the University has established a specific non-selective Orientation Test. Although the test does not in any way prevent enrollment in the program, it is mandatory. If the assessment outcome is not satisfactory, students will be assigned additional educational requirements, consisting of specific remedial learning paths aimed at restoring basic competencies, enabling them to adequately undertake the study program.
The Orientation Test must be taken within 60 days from enrollment and in any case before sitting any exams.
