The main objective of the UNIfHY project, coordinated by Guglielmo Marconi University since 2014, is to produce clean energy through a new industrial process that reduces the cost of hydrogen obtained from the gasification (a high-temperature chemical degradation process) of woody biomass. The initiative aims to develop continuous low-cost hydrogen production to be used as ‘green fuel’ to power fuel cell vehicles in the transportation sector.
The core technology of the UNIfHY project is based on the concept of integrating three key stages of the process within the same gasification reactor: biomass gasification, purification of the produced gas from organic and inorganic contaminants, and filtration and reforming of light hydrocarbons.
