Advanced Training Courses Special Educational Needs: Management of Developmental and Social Disabilities (WBE)
12 months
60
Acronym: WBE
The course aims to provide teachers with useful tools for identifying so-called special educational needs, in order to recognize and understand differences in students’ behavior—both in cases where these are attributable to serious distress and in cases where they reflect different ways of thinking, learning, relating to others, and experiencing school and social situations. The course highlights and describes specific developmental disorders which, in addition to typical learning disorders, include language disorders, deficits in non-verbal skills, attention deficits, and hyperactivity disorders, with particular attention paid to educational theories and teaching practices concerning “special individuals.”
Teachers are increasingly required to understand how problematic family situations, prejudice and cultural hostility, deprived or deviant environments, socio-economic difficulties, communication issues, or insufficient collaboration between schools, services, and local authorities can negatively affect students’ education and development. The course also examines the harmful influences arising from such situations, which interfere with learners’ well-being and academic progress.
