Second-Level Master Diagnostic and Interventional Pediatric Ultrasound

Qualification
Master Certificate
Duration
12 months
Credits (ECTS)
60

An advanced training pathway designed for physicians who wish to gain mastery of diagnostic and interventional ultrasound techniques in pediatric patients, to expand their clinical competencies and enhance decision-making skills across various specialist contexts.

Objectives of the Master

  • Provide a solid theoretical foundation on the physical principles of ultrasound, ultrasound semiotics, and correct image interpretation, including artifacts, with attention to medico-legal aspects.
  • Train physicians in the practical use of the ultrasound device, from probe selection and management to proper execution of standard scans, including the use of advanced technologies such as Doppler, CEUS (Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound), and elastosonography.
  • Specialize participants in pediatric and neonatal ultrasound, teaching specific techniques for young patients, such as transfontanellar, thoracic, abdominal, musculoskeletal, vascular, and emergency ultrasound, respecting the anatomical and clinical characteristics of pediatric development.
  • Develop clinical skills applied to ultrasound of major body regions through a systematic, patient-centered approach in pediatric patients: thorax, head and neck, gastrointestinal tract, musculoskeletal system, lymph nodes, and breast.
  • Train physicians to perform ultrasound in critical and emergency contexts (FAST protocol) for rapid and effective diagnosis in emergency situations.
  • Integrate interventional ultrasound competencies, focusing on ultrasound-guided techniques for minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Provide a theoretical foundation in adult ultrasound through a dedicated module on adult imaging, covering – in a theoretical framework – specific techniques for adult patients, such as abdominal, thoracic, musculoskeletal, vascular, breast, and emergency ultrasound, with attention to the anatomical and clinical characteristics of adulthood.
