Overview

Training non-cognitive skills to better approach reality and anticipate the demands of the external environment.

The first-level Master’s in Life Skills Education has this central objective for all participants, particularly targeting teachers, educators, psychologists, and professionals involved in educational, training, healthcare, social-assistance, and organizational contexts.

The program runs on two complementary tracks: psychology and education, recognizing the importance of developing non-cognitive skills in school curricula at all levels. This approach aims to prevent school dropout and disengagement while simultaneously enhancing self-esteem, self-efficacy, and peer collaboration.

From a purely psychological perspective, the program focuses on developing the personal ability to regulate emotions and strategically modulate them in relation to one’s goals. Law 22/2025 finally introduces the development of non-cognitive and transversal skills in school programs, provincial adult education centers, and vocational education and training pathways.

This represents an ambitious and urgent challenge: promoting the harmonious and comprehensive development of individuals, their potential, and their talents, improving educational success opportunities, preventing functional illiteracy, educational poverty, and school dropout, and, above all, enhancing the autonomy of educational institutions. The program begins with mapping the experiences and projects already implemented in schools and aims to train teaching staff. Within six months of the law’s enactment, general criteria will be established for a three-year national pilot program, starting from the school year following the current one, to develop non-cognitive and transversal skills in educational pathways.

Educational guidance, skills culture, and, finally, non-cognitive and transversal skills: a structured framework is beginning to take shape to fully realize every student’s right to education.

According to studies by the World Health Organization (WHO), non-cognitive skills, also called “life skills,” are crucial not only for professional success in adulthood but also—most importantly—for achieving balance and maturity, guiding individuals toward self-awareness and responsibility.

The program covers a wide range of areas: from effective communication to music therapy; from organizational well-being to behavioral risks and the legal consequences of actions; from writing as an expressive and communicative tool to inclusive teaching practices.

A dedicated module also focuses on training educators in school contexts, emphasizing resilience, life skills, and education for prosocial behavior and diversity.
