Overview
Ergonomics is a discipline that deals with the interaction between the elements of a system and the function for which they are designed, with the aim of improving user satisfaction and system performance.
Ergonomists consider the physical and mental capabilities and limitations of human beings to design or improve products and systems with the goal of making them easy and safe to use. The relationship between the user and the device significantly impacts the individual’s “efficiency”: an object or system that is difficult to use or unsafe requires significant cognitive effort and the potential for error. To assess the quality of the relationship between a person and the technology used, ergonomists consider the tasks to be performed and the user’s requirements, the equipment used (size, shape, layout), and the information required for its use.
