University Teaching and Learning Center

In the international landscape, Teaching and Learning Centers (TLCs) are configured as university structures aimed at supporting and fostering the professional development of faculty, with the ultimate goal of maximizing students’ educational success (ANVUR, 2023).

The Teaching and Learning Center of Guglielmo Marconi University promotes initiatives aimed at improving the quality of online teaching through the training of its faculty members and tutors, and by supporting teaching innovation. It also coordinates, together with the Multidisciplinary Center for Teacher Education (CEMFI), initiatives for initial and in-service training of school teachers.

The Teaching and Learning Center is governed by a Steering Committee composed as follows:

Responsibilities of the Teaching and Learning Center

  • The promotion, development, and coordination of training activities in university teaching for its faculty members (with particular attention to newly hired staff and inclusive teaching), carried out both by developing specific courses, meetings, and seminars on particular topics, and by providing support for activities in this field organized by departments.
  • In coordination with the University Center for Teacher Education, the promotion, support, and development of initial teacher training activities for school teachers and of University initiatives for in-service teacher training.
  • The support and encouragement of activities related to teaching experimentation and innovative teaching at the university level, both by developing and strengthening structured initiatives and by supporting faculty members who wish to introduce teaching innovations in their university courses or, more generally, to improve their teaching practices.

Main ongoing and completed activities

  • Development and updating of asynchronous materials concerning the design of university courses, delivery and interactive teaching, assessment-related and inclusive education topics;
  • Organization of synchronous training sessions for lecturers and tutors, with particular focus on newly hired lecturers and non-Italian native-speaking lecturers teaching in English;
  • Research-training activities that, within the specificities of different disciplines, aim to collect, systematize, and disseminate methodological best practices, with the goal of transforming field experience into operational guidelines for the entire academic community;
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of the proposed activities, in terms of participation and integration into teaching practices.
