Laboratory activities, practical exercises, and applied experimentation represent essential elements of university education and constitute key competencies for future professionals.
To strengthen its role in promoting sustainable development, technological innovation, and advanced teaching—in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the University Strategic Plan—the Guglielmo Marconi University has developed, starting in 2015, two dedicated infrastructures: the Sustainable Technology Laboratory (STL) and the Student Lab (SL).
Sustainable Technology Laboratory (STL)
Contributes to the ecological and energy transition through:
- development of technologies for environmental sustainability
- technology transfer through projects with companies and patents
- enhancement of public engagement and UniMarconi’s educational offering
Student Lab (SL)
Aims to strengthen advanced educational technologies, in line with the Digital Education Action Plan 2021–2027, by integrating experimental components into study programs.
Structure and team
The laboratories are coordinated by Prof. Enrico Bocci and involve:
- research fellows and PhD candidates
- senior researchers
- UniMarconi students
They are also supported by internal functions for Research, International Relations, Administration, IT, Logistics, and Communication.
Spaces and facilities
UniMarconi laboratories integrate physical environments (a total of 150 m²) and digital technologies with dedicated workstations for experimentation, prototyping, analysis, and applied teaching activities.
Among the main functional areas:
- Stations for experimental activities managed online
- Integration into bachelor’s and master’s degree programs
- Remote use of real-world equipment
- Component and prototype work
- Maintenance and small assemblies
- CAD design and 3D printing
- Experimentation on energy technologies
- High-temperature material analysis
- Characterization of systems up to 30 kW
- Material preparation, analysis, and processing
- Dedicated instrumentation for particle size and chemical analysis
Activities are defined and periodically updated according to market developments and research advancements.
Results and impact
The STL has developed research projects, initiated industrial collaborations, and registered patents, contributing to the dissemination of technologies for the energy transition.
