The European Insomnia Network is a working group of the European Sleep Research Society:
https://esrs.eu/research-networks/european-insomnia-network/
EIN objectives
Insomnia is a chronic condition that likely affects more than 10% of the European population and is the most common sleep disorder. The European Insomnia Network targets clinicians and researchers across Europe who address the issue of insomnia.
The aims of the European Insomnia Network are to:
- Get an overview of how many members of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS) are actively involved in clinical or research work on insomnia.
- Improve the exchange between European insomnia clinicians and researchers.
- Establish a structure for an insomnia network as a basis for teaching, clinical and research activities at the EU level.
- Organize meetings of European insomnia clinicians and researchers in order to specify and coordinate activities.
- Establish insomnia as a research target on the EU level.
EIN history
The European Insomnia Network (EIN) was fouded in 2008, led by Prof. Dieter Riemann (Freiburg), together with Eus Van Someren (Amsterdam) and Colin A. Espie (Oxford). The first steering committee included also Prof. Thomas Pollmächer, Prof. Claudio Bassetti, and Prof. Damien Leger. A first call for joining the group of interest was sent in 2009, and more than 100 members within 20 different countries showed interest. The first meeting of the European Insomnia Network took place in July 2012 in Freiburg. The meeting hosted a limited number of clinicians and researchers from several European countries who presented their own work and ideas. Since then, the European Insomnia Network expanded its membership and began organizing annual meetings to share updates on new developments and findings related to insomnia research and clinical practice. Following an idea developed by Prof. Dieter Riemann and Prof. Colin Espie, since 2018 the EIN includes the European CBT-I Academy and 15 training courses directed to health-professionals are now endorsed and active around Europe. Currently the EIN counts more than 300 members from European and non-European countries.

Via dei Gracchi, 152 – RomaThe meeting is located in a very central area of the city, between the historic centre and the Vatican City, where hotel availability can become limited well in advance.
We strongly recommend booking your accommodation as soon as possible, as the congress will take place during Rome’s high tourist season (Spring- not yet too hot.. Tennis Italian Open, etc.).
There are plenty of hotels and accomodations solutions in the area that you can find.
Particularly, we have arranged special agreements with the following hotels, which will offer a 10% discount to participants registered for the congress.
Please note that reservations must be made directly through the official hotel websites (and not through third-party platforms such as Booking.com, Trivago, etc.) and that it is necessary to specify that you are registered for the EIN Congress (May 13–15, 2026) in order to benefit from the discount.

Venue
The Guglielmo Marconi University is structured across several locations in Rome. The Rectorate and administrative offices are based in Via Plinio 44, which serves as the organisational heart of the institution; teaching and classroom activities take place in Via Paolo Emilio 29, while additional facilities complete the University’s academic presence in the capital.
Of particular importance is the venue in Via Vittoria Colonna 11, which will host the Annual Meeting of the European insomnia network (EIN2026) in the Aula magna. Located in the prestigious Prati district, strategically positioned between the historic centre and the Vatican City, this campus not only accommodates the Didactic Production Centre but also serves as a prominent venue for academic and international congress activities.
The surrounding area provides one of the finest cultural and architectural settings of the city. Within walking distance are Castel Sant’Angelo, overlooking the River Tiber, and the grand St Peter’s Square with the Vatican Basilica, reached through the famous Via della Conciliazione. The Prati district, renowned for its elegant 19th-century architecture, its shopping streets such as Via Cola di Rienzo, and monumental squares such as Piazza Cavour, offers the ideal setting to combine academic work, cultural exchange, and the discovery of the city.
Proximity to the River Tiber, with its historic bridges and pedestrian routes, adds further charm to the area, creating evocative links with the historic centre and its countless landmarks: Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori, the Pantheon, Trevi fountain are all within walking distance or just a few stops away by the underground.
Thanks to this privileged location, the Via Vittoria Colonna campus is the ideal venue for hosting the Annual Meeting of the European insomnia network: easily accessible, set in an urban environment of great cultural and historical value, and surrounded by some of the most iconic landmarks of the Eternal City.
How to reach annual meeting location
International Airports
Rome is served by two international airports, well connected to the city centre:
- LEONARDO DA VINCI AIRPORT (Fiumicino)
- B. PASTINE AIRPORT (Ciampino)
Both hubs are served by the major flight companies, including the low-cost ones.
From LEONARDO DA VINCI Airport (Fiumicino)
- Leonardo Express (Stop Termini Station)
At Fiumicino Airport, you can take the Leonardo Express to Rome Termini from the train station inside the airport, just a short walk from the terminals. Follow the signs for “Trains” after baggage claim. Tickets can be bought at the ticket counters, machines, or online, and trains run every 15 minutes, taking about 32 minutes to reach Termini. - FL1 Train (Stop Tiburtina Station)
At Fiumicino Airport (Terminal 1 or 3), you can take the FL1 train toward Orte/Fara Sabina. Do not take the Leonardo Express if you want to get off at Tiburtina station, because the Leonardo Express only stops at Termini station. Travel time to Tiburtina Station with FL1 Train is 35–40 minutes. - By bus
At Fiumicino Airport, you can take buses to Roma Prati from the main stops outside the terminal (Terminal 3 has the most stops). Several companies offer regular services, with departures every 30-60 minutes, and the journey to the centre of Rome takes about 45 minutes. Among the buses going to Roma Prati, BusShuttle stops at Via Crescenzio, from where it is a 5-minute walk to the meeting location at Via Vittoria Colonna. - By taxi
At Fiumicino Airport, official taxis are available at two locations: outside the Arrivals area of Terminal 1 and outside the Arrivals area of Terminal 3. Look for the white taxis with the “TAXI” sign and official Rome or Fiumicino logos on the doors. Always use the official taxi ranks and avoid drivers who approach you inside the terminal. The ride is approximately 50-60 minutes, depending on traffic.
From G.B. PASTINE AIRPORT (Ciampino)
- By train (stop Termini Station)
Step 1: Shuttle bus from the airport to Ciampino railway station
At the terminal exit, you will find several local bus lines or shuttles going to Ciampino railway station. The ride is approximately 5–10 minutes.
Step 2: Regional train from Ciampino station to Termini Station
From Ciampino railway station, take a regional train (FL4) to Termini Station, Rome’s main railway station. Trains run approximately every 15–30 minutes during the day. Duration: approximately 15 minutes. - By bus (stop Termini Station)
There are different bus lines serving Termini Station: Terravision, SIT BusShuttle, TAM. Buses depart from the square in front of Ciampino Airport, near the main exit. The ride to Termini is approximately 40 minutes. - By taxi
