Doctor Europaeus

L’attestazione di Doctor Europaeus è una certificazione aggiuntiva al titolo di Dottore di ricerca che viene rilasciata a livello nazionale. Non è un titolo accademico con valore sovranazionale né un titolo conferito da istituzioni internazionali. È stata tuttavia introdotta nel 1992 dalla Confederazione delle Conferenze dei Rettori dell’Unione Europea per la spendibilità in ambito europeo dei diversi titoli nazionali.  Tale certificazione deve rispettare le condizioni della Confederazione delle Conferenze dei Rettori dei paesi della Ue, recepite dalla European University Association (EUA). 

Per l’Ateneo Guglielmo Marconi, la certificazione aggiuntiva di Doctor Europaeus è disciplinata dall’articolo 42 del Regolamento in materia di Dottorato di ricerca (Allegato al D.R. 13 maggio 2022, n. 1).

Il certificato di Doctor Europaeus potrà essere rilasciato dall’Ateneo, su delibera del Collegio dei docenti, quando sussistano le seguenti quattro condizioni:

1. Giudizio positivo sul lavoro di tesi accordato da almeno due valutatori, nominati dal Collegio dei Docenti, appartenenti a istituzioni universitarie di due paesi europei, diversi da quello in cui la tesi sarà discussa; le relazioni dei valutatori dovranno essere allegate anche al verbale dell’esame finale;
2. Presenza nella commissione di almeno un componente proveniente da un’istituzione universitaria di un paese europeo diverso da quello in cui la tesi viene discussa;
3. Parte della discussione della tesi dovrà essere sostenuta in inglese oppure, previa autorizzazione del Collegio dei Docenti, in altra lingua tra quelle ufficiali dell’Unione europea;
4. Durante il dottorato bisogna aver trascorso almeno 3 mesi in un paese europeo diverso da quello in cui ha sede il dottorato.

Il dottorando interessato al rilascio della certificazione di Doctor Europaeus dovrà fare richiesta al Coordinatore per la delibera del Collegio dei Docenti, mediante l’apposito modulo.

The Doctor Europæus certificate is an additional certification to the PhD title which is issued at national level. It has been introduced in 1992 by the Confederation of Conferences of the University Rectors of European Union. It is neither an academic title with international value nor a title awarded by international institutions.

The certification must comply with the conditions of the Confederation of Conferences of the University Rectors of the EU countries, set also by the European University Association (EUA). For the Guglielmo Marconi University, this is regulated by Article 42 of the Doctoral Regulation (Annex to D.R. 13 May 2022, No. 1). 

The additional certification of Doctor Europæus may be issued by the University, upon resolution of the PhD Board, when all the following four conditions are met:

1. Positive evaluation of the thesis work agreed by at least two reviewers, appointed by the PhD Board, belonging to universities of two European countries, different from the one where the thesis is discussed; the reports of the reviewers will be attached to the minutes of the thesis’ defense.
2. Presence in the defense committee of at least one member from a university of a European country different from the one where the thesis is discussed.
3. Part of the discussion of the thesis shall be in English or, upon authorization by the PhD Board, in another official European language other than that of the country where the thesis is discussed.
4. The doctoral thesis must be the result of a period of work and research carried out abroad for at least 3 months, even if not consecutive, in a European country other than the country where the doctoral thesis is discussed.

The doctoral candidate interested in the Doctor Europæus certification must send a request to the Coordinator of the PhD Board prior to the thesis’ defense.
